Tecumseh is Prepared for High Winds
A wind warning has been issued by Environment Canada for the Windsor-Leamington-Essex County area for today and tomorrow. The Town of Tecumseh crews are prepared for winds predicted to be between 40 to 60 km/hr, and gusts of up to 100 km/hr this evening and tomorrow.
Due to the high winds, trees with weak or shallow roots can be knocked over and tree limbs can break.
The potential also exists for traffic signals, construction signs or any other free standing signs to be damaged or blown around by the high winds. To report traffic signal disruptions or signs displaced or in the roadway, please call the Town’s Public Works Department 519-735-2184 Ext 142 and after hours at 519-259-4350. Where traffic lights are not functioning, motorists are reminded to treat the intersection as a four-way stop.
Reports of tree damage which require clearing of the roadways will be addressed as a first priority, and will secondly remove broken branches in trees in the right-of-way. The Town of Tecumseh is responsible for trees in its right-of-way [normally within 33-feet from the centre line of the roadway]. All trees and shrubs located on private property are the responsibility of the property owner.
Home owners are asked to secure any loose objects in their yards.
If an emergency arises during the course of the storm that is life threatening, please call 911.
