On Tuesday, June 5, members of Council unveiled a tree carving recently completed and participated in the County Wide Active Transportation Systems
(CWATS) annual community celebration in Lakewood Park. Mayor McNamara was joined by ‘Mayor for the Day’ Addison Stopford, a grade 5 student from St. Piux X Elementary School, who won first place in the Local Government Week Poetry Contest held in the fall.
The carving is an artist’s rendering of LaSalle and Cadillac, two French Explorers who have a connection to the area.
As part of the unveiling event, Tecumseh joined other regional municipalities in celebrating the annual CWATS community event—‘Walk. Ride. County Wide.’ Essex County made a 20 year commitment to active transportation which celebrates the benefits of active transportation throughout the region.
Grade 8 students from St. Pius X Elementary School joined members of Council for the event.
