TRAFFIC SIGNALS
TECUMSEH ROAD AND LACASSE BLVD. INTERSECTION

 The Town of Tecumseh, in June 2006, initiated consultation with representatives from Transport Canada, Canadian National Rail (CN) and Via Rail regarding improvements to the intersection of Tecumseh Road and Lacasse Boulevard, including the installation of traffic signals. The traffic signals were installed in 2009 as a component of the Tecumseh Road Improvement Project that was funded in part through the COMRIF Program.

The improvements require CN to modify its road crossing warning system near this intersection (known as the Lesperance Road, at mileage 99.31 railway crossing) to provide for a pre-emption signal to the traffic signals at the Tecumseh Road and Lacasse Boulevard intersection. Due to a delay in the implementation of the necessary railway pre-emption signal, the Town is unable to activate the new traffic signals at the subject intersection.

Recent correspondence from CN states that the pre-emption works will not be completed until December 14, 2010, as CN has reassigned its resources to other projects that must be completed by December 14, 2010.

The Town is seeking the assistance of the Minister of State Transport, as well as our local MPs, in expediting the necessary modifications to CN’s road crossing warning system. A copy of the Town’s most recent letter to the Minister can be found below.
