Deputy Mayor Tom Burton Profile

Deputy Mayor Tom Burton has been a strong community leader for over 20 years. He was first elected to Tecumseh Town Council in 1988. Between 1991 and 1994 Tom was elected as Deputy Reeve and in November 1994 he was elected as Deputy Mayor. He was re-elected as Deputy Mayor in November 2003 and 2006.

Tom has also been a member of Essex County Council since 1991 and remains a County Councillor today.

Tom was born and raised in Essex County; however, he has been a resident of Tecumseh for the last 25 years. He resides at 12139 Orchard Drive with his wife Dianne. He is the proud father of three daughters, Nancy, Susan and Amanda and is Grandpa to five grandchildren.

Tom is a retiree from DaimlerChrysler and the CAW after 38 years of service.

·        Work on obtaining additional green space (Lakewood Golf Course).
·        Improve transparency (sharing of information) of the Windsor Essex Development Commission and Essex County Council.
·        True supporter of open communication in order to foster and assist municipalities in building capacity and in developing economic development strategies.
·        Maintain high standards in municipal services at the lowest cost possible.
·        Affordable tax base.
·        Development of our waterfront park.
·        County Road 19 upgrades with the assistance of federal and provincial grants.
·        Traffic signal at Lacasse and Tecumseh Roads.
·        Sewer and water improvements for Old Castle and southern section of the municipality.
·        Improvements to Banwell to foster new bike paths and trails.
·        Work to provide municipal servicing for new residential development in Town.
·        Encourage development of the new secondary and elementary school off Banwell.
