Arlington Boulevard Improvements
The Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for the improvements to Arlington Boulevard extends from Riverside Drive to Tecumseh Road. The purpose of the study was to identify a preferred solution to address the existing traffic volumes and speeds, as well as improve the storm drainage system.
The key principles of the Class EA include:
- Consultation with affected parties;
- Consideration of a reasonable range of alternatives;
- Consideration of the effects on all aspects of the environment (i.e. natural, social/cultural, technical, economic, etc.);
- Systematic evaluation of the alternatives to determine their net environmental effects; and
- Provision of clear and complete documentation.
The report identifies a Preferred Solution that would consist of a two-lane asphalt pavement cross section, with concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk and an asphalt multi-use trail. A number of traffic calming measures would also be included in the design. Storm drainage would include the re-grading of the boulevards with the installation of new storm sewers complete with road and boulevard catch basins where required.
