St. Alphonse Avenue & South Pacific Avenue Reconstruction
The Town initiated the planning and design for corridor improvements to St. Alphonse Avenue between County Road 42 and South Pacific Avenue in 2006. Dillon Consulting Limited was retained to assist the Town with the planning and preliminary design component of the proposed improvements.
The study shall satisfy the planning and design process of the Municipal Class Environment Assessment (MCEA). According to the MCEA, the project was identified as a Schedule A+ activity since the reconstruction will be for the same purpose, use, capacity and location. The project is therefore pre-approved as per the Environmental Assessment Act; however, public notification of the project is recommended prior to project implementation.
A Notice of Public Information Centre (PIC) was published in the Tecumseh Tribune and mailed to potential stakeholders, groups, and agencies as part of the notification process. The PIC was held on October 25, 2007, wherein three design options were proposed and comments from the public were recorded.
The report identifies the preferred option as a two-lane asphalt pavement cross section, with concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk and on-street bicycle lanes. Storm drainage would include the re-grading of the boulevards with installation of new storm sewers complete with road and boulevard catch basins where required.
