Optional Water and Sanitary Sewer Line Protection Programs for Homeowners

Did you know that as a Homeowner you are responsible for repairs to the water and sewer pipes that run from your home to your property line? The Town of Tecumseh is responsible for the maintenance and repair of municipal water and sewer (wastewater) pipes within the municipal right of way.

If a pipe on your property fails, it is your responsibility to pay for these repairs which can cost thousands of dollars and is usually an unexpected expense.

Tecumseh Council endorsed a Service Line Warranty Program that was being offered by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) through one of their subsidiaries, Local Authorities Service (LAS), to offer homeowners extra protection for private water and sanitary sewer pipes and in-home plumbing.

This program is voluntary and optional to Tecumseh Residents.

The program is managed and administered by Service Line Warranties of Canada (SLWC), the LAS selected service provider who offers coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Town did not provide SLWC homeowner contact information and none of the Town’s data was shared for this program. A third-party company used Tecumseh postal codes to provide mailing information to SLWC. Despite best efforts to limit these mailings to residents in Tecumseh, some letters were sent to Lakeshore and Windsor residents with a Tecumseh postal code. If you do not live in Town, please contact SLWC to be removed from the mailing list.

Watch your mail for details, program costs, and how to sign up for the optional and voluntary program. The recently mailed letters are the first in a series of mail outs featuring the exterior water line protection plan.

In the future, homeowners will receive additional mail-outs for the sewer and in-home plumbing optional and voluntary programs. The Town of Tecumseh logo was on the mail-out to confirm the program was endorsed by the Town and that the program is legitimate.

Please note that the program is not administered by the Town and as such, the Town cannot take registrations or payments. Please direct all questions and registration to Service Lines Warranty of Canada as indicated in the mail-out.

If you wish to have the letters stopped, or your contact information changed, please call SLWC at 1-844-616-8444 press #2 for an operator and request to have your name removed or updated on their mailing list.
