Council Connect: Highlights from October 11, 2022 meetings of Council

Tecumseh Town Council met this evening and here are the highlights:

Regular Meeting of Council

Tecumseh 100th Anniversary Celebration Report Out: Council received a report regarding the Tecumseh 100th Anniversary Celebration Report Out. The Town’s 100th Anniversary celebration event was held from July 2-4, 2022 and the celebration was an overall success, including a variety of events such as sunrise ceremonies with our Indigenous partners, memorial walks, a bike rally, concerts and fireworks. The anticipated event costs were budgeted at $286,000, and after grant funding opportunities, corporate sponsorships and reduced expenditures, the event came in under budget with savings in the order of $80,000.

Financial Incentive Program Grant Application Tecumseh Road Main Street Community Improvement Plan 1071 Lesperance Road: Council received and approved a report for a proposed Parking Area Improvement Grant Program in the amount of $10,000 in relation to the parking lot improvements proposed for the subject property, located at 1071 Lesperance Road (1797565 Ontario Ltd./Home Instead). The grant application has been reviewed and evaluated by Town Administration against the requirements of the CIP. Town Administration has no concerns with the application. The CIP establishes a community developed vision and provides a means for planning and promoting development activities to use lands, buildings, and facilities more effectively and efficiently.

DS-2022-42 Consent Agreement - 6780 Holden Road - Municipal Drain Access Culvert: Council received a report that recommended a by-law to authorize the Mayor and Clerk to execute a Consent Agreement between the Town of Tecumseh and Raffaele and Gina Meo, which will facilitate the future construction of an access culvert across a municipal drain on the property located at 6780 Holden Road created by land severance. Council approved the report.

Budget Variance Report - June 2022: The 2022 budget variance report was received by Council. The report showed that based on projections and assumptions through to the end of December 31, 2022, Administration has projected a year-end surplus in the Operating Fund of $235,597. This is made up of a tax-supported surplus of $287,456 and a rate-supported deficit of $51,859. The projected surplus includes grant revenue, user fees/permits and charges, operating and maintenance supplies and net transfers to/from reserves.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Policy: Council received a report and approved a BYOD policy that outlines the expectations and responsibilities of both the Town and Town Employees who use their own mobile device to access Town information assets. Employees will understand and agree to the requirements and responsibilities when using their own mobile device to access corporate information such as emails, contacts or Town applications.
