Council Connect: Highlights from the June 7, 2022, Meetings of Council

Tecumseh Town Council met electronically this evening, and here are the highlights:

Public Council Meeting:

Council held a public meeting about a proposed Industrial Community Improvement Plan (CIP). The proposed new Industrial CIP is intended to focus on strategically incentivizing development, in this case significant industrial development, in alignment with federal and provincial incentive programs, in order to generate broad economic development benefits across the Town and region. Dillon Consulting Limited has been retained to assist in the development of the CIP. They have conducted public and stakeholder engagement, as well as best practice research, and presented a range of approaches for the CIP at tonight’s meeting. A public meeting will be scheduled for Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. to obtain public and stakeholder feedback on a related amendment to the Tecumseh Official Plan.

Special Meeting of Council:

Council voted to accept the resignation of Ward 1 Councillor Andrew Dowie, who was successfully elected to Member of Provincial Parliament in the recent Ontario elections. A vacancy was declared in Ward 1, and Council directed staff to bring back a report on options for filling the seat at the June 28 regular meeting of Council.  Council also nominated Councillor Brian Houston to replace Councillor Dowie as the Town’s representative on the County of Essex Library Board. This nomination will be provided to County Council for consideration in their appointment process.

Next Regular Meeting: The next regular meeting of Council is June 28, 2022. The meeting will be held electronically. The agenda and livestream will be available on the Town’s website. Follow the Town of Tecumseh on Facebook and Twitter for news and the latest information.
