Today the Province of Ontario announced the reduced restrictions that would permit some private facilities to reopen as early as Saturday, May 16 or Tuesday, May 19. Tecumseh Administration is reviewing the Provincial list and will work to determine when Town facilities may be able to safely reopen. At this time, Town of Tecumseh park facilities remain closed to the public and they include, but are not limited to: the Arena, Skate Park, Dog Park, Disc Golf Course, Fitness Equipment and Climbing Rock in Lakewood Park, tennis and pickleball courts, baseball diamonds, soccer pitches and all playground and picnic equipment in parks.

“We understand that everyone is eager to get back to enjoying our equipment and facilities,” said Gary McNamara, Mayor of Tecumseh. “Unfortunately we are not ready to reopen these for use yet. The Town is following public health advice on measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. We ask for your continued patience and as soon as they are ready for use we will let everyone know.”

Tecumseh closed all parks equipment, facilities and fields on Tuesday, March 24. This included the installation of fencing, tape and locks around equipment and on all access points. After restrictions are lifted, the Town will require time to properly prepare amenities for safe use relative to the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, reopening these areas to residents will be shared publicly.

“We have heard from users and understand the desire to use municipal facilities,” said Paul Anthony, Director of Parks and Recreation. “However we must maintain a cautious and measured approach to reopening. In the meantime we encourage residents to continue to use our Virtual Recreation Complex page of our website (www.tecumseh.ca/virtualrecreation) for links on how to stay active and in motion while at home.”

As this situation is constantly changing with updated messages from the Canadian and Ontario governments as well as public health agencies, the Town will continue to provide ongoing updates on further decisions. All updates will be posted on our website and users may register for regular updates using the online subscription service at https://subscribe.tecumseh.ca/subscribe.
