The Town of Tecumseh has begun the process to reopen facilities for in-person services in accordance with the Province of Ontario’s Step 3 of the Roadmap to Reopen. This includes the graduated reopening of Town Hall, the Tecumseh Recreation Complex and Arena and other amenities. Openings will be within public health guidelines and a summary of what is open is set out below and on the Town’s website. Requirements such as pre-screening and safety plans prior to visiting/using the facilities are also outlined.

“We are happy that Ontario is moving to Step 3 earlier than expected, however reopening requires a number of measures be completed to ensure safe operation for both visitors and staff,” said Gary McNamara, Mayor of Tecumseh. “We appreciate the desire to access in-person services and facilities and we ask for patience as we move forward. We will continue to share information on our website and social media as services are available.”

Current Status of Town Facilities

Customer Service is available by phone (519-735-2184) or email (info@tecumseh.ca), Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30. A telephone directory is available. Appointment-based visits set out below are subject to COVID pre-screening.

Licensing and Information: Marriage License, Dog Tag and Urban Hen Applications, Freedom of Information Request Forms, and Cat Spay/Neuter Vouchers are available on the Town’s website. In person services will be provided by appointment only. Please call 519-735-2184 Ext. 101 to schedule an appointment.

Tax Payments: Tax payments may be made through your financial institution, by secure mail drop box at Town Hall or by pre-authorized payment.

Community Programming: Tecumseh Recreation is continuing to offer a variety of fitness and artistic programs for youth, adults and seniors in our community parks and facilities. Participant numbers are reflective of the Provincial Roadmap guidelines, instructor requirements and available facility space. Available programs are found on our Tecumseh Rec Page.

Leisure Pool: Learn to Swim programs are currently offered reflective of the Provincial Roadmap guidelines and based on current staffing levels. Recreational swims, including Tot Time, Adult Lengths, Aquafit and Family Swims are available daily based with physical distancing measures within the pool area and staffing requirements. Advanced registration is required to attend any scheduled recreational swim. Recreational swims are posted weekly on Tecumseh Rec where individuals can register to reserve a time to swim. All visitors of the Tecumseh Leisure Pool are encouraged to watch the Return to the Pool video prior to attending the facility.

Arena: The Tecumseh Arena will be open for ice rentals starting on Tuesday August 3rd. Reservations for ice rentals will be considered based on ice time availability and rentals will be required to strictly follow the Provincial  regulations regarding indoor recreational facilities. The Community Rooms located within the Tecumseh Recreation Complex & Arena (Centre Ice Room and Horwood Room) will be available for use with a rental permit starting in September 2021.Customer service is available by phone (519-735-4756) or email (recreation@tecumseh.ca), Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 4:30 for registrations, rentals and questions on facilities. In-person services by appointment where necessary.

Community Recreational Facilities: The Optimist Community Centre is available to use with a rental permit. Groups using the community centre are required to submit a COVID-19 Safety Plan and adhere to current Provincial and Local health guidelines. Park Pavilions are available for use with a rental permit and with a maximum capacity of 30 individuals. Ten picnic tables will be provided for all scheduled pavilion rentals.
