Tecumseh Splash Pads Open
Tecumseh’s two outdoor Splash Pads are set to open this weekend. Daily hours of operation are 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The openings will be as follows:
St. Mary’s Park 12020 County Road #34 OPENS FRIDAY JULY 24
McAuliffe Park – Newly constructed -- 2391 St. Alphonse Street EXPECTED TO OPEN SATURDAY JULY 25
Town staff began to prepare the outdoor splash pads for re-opening following the Province of Ontario’s announcement that Windsor-Essex could move into Stage 2 on June 24. The Health Unit has completed inspection and provided approval for the outdoor splash pads to be opened.
“We are happy to have our outdoor splash pads operational for the summer and are thrilled with the addition of the new outdoor splash pad at McAuliffe Park,” said Gary McNamara, Mayor of Tecumseh. “While we encourage use of these facilities, it is important that residents be vigilant in following public health guidelines to reduce the spread of COVID-19.”
Signage will be posted at each of the outdoor splash pads indicating COVID-19 safe play recommendations. Use of all Town facilities is at the user’s own risk and recommendations for the safe use of outdoor splash pads include:
- Do not use the facility if you or your children:
- Are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19
- Have been in contact with someone with COVID-19
- Are considered vulnerable or at risk
- Encourage children from different families to keep their distance (at least 2 metres) at all times.
- Respect the current public gathering limit of 10 people.
- Wash/Sanitize hands and toys/equipment before and after using the splash pad.
- Bring your own hand sanitizer
- Avoid sharing toys or equipment with children outside of your household.
- When possible activate the water feature button with elbows.
“We thank the community for their patience as we worked with the Health Unit to reopen the splash pads with proper safety guidelines in place,” said Paul Anthony, Director of Parks and Recreation. “We request that users follow recommendations, use the areas responsibly and be mindful of others who may be waiting to play due to more than 10 children in the splash pad. We will adjust maximum numbers of users when we are permitted to do so under Provincial re-opening rules.”
