Following discussions with First Student Canada, the operator of Tecumseh Transit,  the Town determined that Tecumseh’s transit service will continue to operate notwithstanding the temporary suspension of Windsor Transit during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“I commend First Student for their dedicated service and continued operation for our residents,” said Gary McNamara, Mayor of Tecumseh. “Our transit service carries passengers to grocery stores, drugstores and places of work. We continue to see riders on the bus that depend on us for their vital transportation needs.”

On Friday, March 20, 2020, Tecumseh announced that fares would be waived to reduce contact between drivers and passengers and First Student Canada has implemented additional cleanings and sanitization daily to protect those using and operating the service.

Tecumseh Transit riders are provided a transfer stop at Tecumseh Mall however the connections to Windsor Transit will cease as of Sunday, March 29, 2020. Administration and First Student Canada continue to monitor service on an on-going basis and will make service or route adjustments as needed on a go forward basis. The transit service has 43 stops throughout Town, providing access to a number of pharmacies and the two main grocery stores, Zehrs and Food Basics.

As this situation is constantly changing with updated messages from the Canadian and Ontario governments as well as public health agencies, the Town will continue to provide ongoing updates on further decisions. All updates will be posted to our website and users may register for regular updates from the online subscription service.
