Town of Tecumseh New Zoning By-law Project: Notice of Public Open House

The Town of Tecumseh has initiated a project to prepare a new Zoning By-law which will apply to all lands in the Town. Zoning in Tecumseh is currently regulated by three zoning by-laws which apply to the three former municipalities (former Town of Tecumseh, former Village of St. Clair Beach and former Town of Sandwich South) that now form part of the current Town of Tecumseh.

You are invited to attend an in-person Public Open House to learn more about this project and to provide your input into the development of the new Zoning By-law. This first phase of the project is designed to gather ideas, concerns, and issues with the current zoning by-laws in place. This Public Open House will be an opportunity to learn about a draft Discussion Paper that has been prepared to summarize background research and foundations for preparing the new Zoning By-law.

There is a need to prepare a new Zoning By-law primarily to ensure that the zoning conforms to local, County, and Provincial policy, and addresses the Town’s new Official Plan.

What is a Zoning By-law?

The Zoning By-law is the Town’s primary tool to regulate the use of land in Tecumseh. The Zoning By-law divides all land in the Town into various zone categories (e.g., residential, agricultural, commercial), establishes what uses are permitted, and identifies standards about the location, massing and height of buildings and structures.
