Tecumseh Using Cost Savings to Fund New Water Infrastructure Projects
Tecumseh—The Town of Tecumseh is reallocating approximately $5.2 million in cost savings to support the construction of two new stormwater management ponds in the Manning Road Secondary Planning Area, reducing flood risk, which will enhance local water systems and enable more housing.
In 2024, the Town of Tecumseh was awarded $15.1 million from the Government of Ontario through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program's Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (MHIP-HEWSF) to support the Tecumseh Hamlet & Manning Road Secondary Plan Area project, which is reducing the risk of flooding in the area and enabling the construction of approximately 6,000 new homes. The project was recently completed and was under budget by approximately $5.2 million. The province and the town have agreed to reallocate these cost savings towards the construction of two new stormwater management ponds.
“Through our government’s $4 billion Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, we are protecting Ontario by investing in local infrastructure that drives economic growth, creates jobs and strengthens communities. By working with the Town of Tecumseh, we are pleased to support the town’s reallocation of cost savings to fund new infrastructure projects that will support new housing and build a more resilient community.”
Todd McCarthy, Ontario’s Acting Minister of Infrastructure
"Parents across Tecumseh have told me how important it is for their children to be able to stay and raise families in the community they love. By investing $5.24 million in essential infrastructure, we are helping to reduce housing costs, improve flood protection, and build a stronger future for Tecumseh.”
Andrew Dowie, MPP for Windsor–Tecumseh
“We’re grateful for our partnership with the Ontario government and its continued support. Together, we’re building and modernizing the infrastructure needed to meet future demands, support new housing, foster economic growth, and strengthen the vitality and resilience of our communities.”
Gary McNamara, Mayor of the Town of Tecumseh
