Council Connect: Highlights from November 10, 2025, meetings of Council

 

Regular Meeting of Council

Annual Health and Safety Policy Review Completed: Council approved Health and Safety Policy No. 7, which was recently reviewed by the Joint Health and Safety Committee. The policy must be reviewed annually in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.


Emergency Management Program By-law Updated
: Council adopted a by-law that updates the composition of the Town of Tecumseh’s Emergency Control Group and Emergency Management Program Committee, as well as appointments to associated positions.


New False Fire Alarm By-law Adopted
: Council passed a by-law imposing fees and charges for responding to repeated false fire alarms. The intent is to encourage property owners with monitored fire alarm systems to maintain them and keep Tecumseh Fire Rescue Service resources available for emergencies.


Appointment to the End of Council Term Confirmed
: Council reaffirmed the appointment of Tom Fuerth to the Committee of Adjustment to the end of this municipal term on November 14, 2026. Fuerth, who has chaired the committee for eight years, notified Council that he recently moved to Essex.


Public Meeting Set for Proposed Zoning By-law Amendment, 13231-13233 Riverside Drive
: Council will hold a meeting on December 9, 2025, at 5 p.m. to hear public comments regarding a proposed zoning by-law amendment. The amendment will allow the owner of a property on the south side of Riverside Drive west of Grace Road to replace an existing duplex with a two-storey semi-detached dwelling with two units. The property is currently zoned R1 and requires rezoning to R1-11 to allow the proposed dwelling.


Tecumseh Votes Initiative Earns Grant Funding:
A grant from the WindsorEssex Community Foundation will help the Town hire a temporary voter engagement specialist to administer its Tecumseh Votes initiative, which aims to increase voter turnout for the 2026 municipal election. Council authorized administration to execute an agreement for the $15,000 grant. It also gave pre-budget approval to allocating an additional $16,655 in 2026 to cover the balance of the voter engagement specialist’s contract position.


Streets, Parks and Community Facilities Naming Policy Adopted
: Council approved a policy that provides guidelines and a consistent process for naming streets, parks and other Town assets when the naming is not associated with a sponsorship. Tecumseh has a separate Corporate Grants, Sponsorships and Naming Rights Policy that was adopted in 2011.


Wood Debris Affecting Merrick Drain Flow
: Council appointed Tony Peralta, of N.J. Peralta Engineering Ltd., to provide a varied schedule of assessment for maintenance of the Merrick Creek Drain. During a meeting on October 7, 2025, that was attended by 25 landowners in the watershed, it was generally accepted that woody debris affecting the drain’s water flow should be removed.


Notice of Motion – Tecumseh Road On-Street Parking
: Council rejected a motion brought forward by Deputy Mayor Bachetti to temporarily eliminate on-street parking along the south side portion of Tecumseh Road or implement a daily no parking time restrictions on either or both sides of Tecumseh Road so as to help ease congestion for commuters.  Town Administration expressed commitment to monitoring the traffic and collaborating with the County of Essex on traffic signal timing calibration.
