Emancipation Day – August 1

The Town of Tecumseh recognizes Emancipation Day on August 1, marking the anniversary of the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833, which ended slavery in most of the British Empire, including Canada.

To honour this important day in our shared history, Town Hall will be illuminated in red, green, and yellow as a symbol of reflection, resilience, and the ongoing journey toward equity and justice for all.

We encourage residents to take time to learn more about the significance of Emancipation Day and the contributions of Black communities in shaping our nation.
