Flag Raising: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
On Tuesday, September 30, the Town of Tecumseh will raise the Every Child Matters flag at Town Hall to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
This day honours the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities. It is a time to acknowledge the tragic legacy of the residential school system and to reflect on the ongoing impacts of this history on Indigenous Peoples across Canada.
It is especially meaningful in a community that bears the name of Chief Tecumseh—a leader remembered for his courage, unity, and strength. His legacy reminds us of the importance of respect, partnership, and shared purpose.
The Town of Tecumseh is committed to ongoing learning, understanding, and reconciliation. We encourage all residents to take this day to listen, learn, and engage in meaningful conversations about our shared history and the path forward.
