National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism
National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism
Each year on June 23, Canada observes the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism. This solemn day honours the memory of those who have lost their lives or were injured as a result of terrorist acts, both in Canada and abroad.
The date marks the anniversary of the tragic bombing of Air India Flight 182 in 1985, which claimed the lives of 329 innocent people off the coast of Ireland, many of whom were Canadian citizens. It remains the deadliest act of terrorism in Canadian history.
As a sign of respect and remembrance, flags at all Town of Tecumseh facilities will be flown at half-mast on Monday, June 23.
We encourage all residents to take a moment to reflect on the lives lost and the importance of standing together against acts of violence and hatred in all forms.
