Significant Weather Event Declared - January 15, 2026
For Immediate Release
Thursday January 15, 2026
The Town has declared a Significant Weather Event in accordance with Town Policy 107. In response to the snowfall and extreme low temperatures on January 14th through the 15th as well as the anticipated snowfall expected Friday January 16th though Sunday January 18th, Tecumseh Public Works and the Ontario Provincial Police ask everyone to do their part in helping to keep streets clear and to drive safely.
Town Roadways
- Snow removal takes time in heavy accumulation. Watch for plows and keep a safe distance.
- Residents are to move vehicles off the street to allow for full clearing of the roads. Plowing around parked vehicles creates a windrow of snow. The more snow that falls, the bigger the windrow created on streets with parked cars. These windrows narrow the road, preventing plows and emergency services vehicles from accessing streets.
- Under the Highway Traffic Act, it is illegal to leave vehicles parked on streets when they impede snowplow operations. It is at the discretion of the OPP whether they will tow a vehicle, issue a ticket or provide a warning to the vehicle owner on site to move their vehicle.
- On streets where there are no driveways, drivers are asked to move their vehicles after the first pass of the snowplow, so crews can address the snow buildup.
Sidewalks
- As per Town By-law 2016-06, property owners are required to remove all snow and ice from sidewalks in front of commercial buildings within four hours of a snowfall or ice formation, and from sidewalks in front of residential buildings within 12 hours of a snowfall.
Tecumseh Transit
- Transit service throughout this period may experience some weather-related delays, please be patient.
