Tecumseh Fire Services Unveils a New Aerial Platform Apparatus
Tecumseh, ON- Tecumseh Fire and Resue Services has unveiled the newest member of their fleet- a 100-foot aerial platform apparatus. The new apparatus will be formally named Truck 1, replacing the existing 70-foot aerial platform. This milestone event completes a process that began in March 2022 where Council authorized Town Administration to get quotes for an aerial platform with increased response capabilities for mid-rise residential and large industrial buildings. The Town’s total investment for the new apparatus is $2.53 million.
Members of Town Council joined Fire Services for the “push-in ceremony”, to officially welcome the newest member of the fleet to Fire Hall #1. This ceremony is a tradition that recognizes the early days of fire service, when hand-drawn and horse-drawn fire engines had to be pushed back into the fire station by firefighters after every call. The “push-in” tradition continues to signify the arrival of a new apparatus entering the fire hall.
“We have planned for this vehicle considering the changing nature of buildings in our community. The result of the 3-year planning and manufacturing process has been unveiled today, and we are grateful to enable an enhanced level of safety to our residents and businesses with this next-generation vehicle,” said Chief Bondy. “This vehicle gives our emergency service team greater capabilities and upgraded safety features, providing added levels of assurance when responding to calls.”
“The Town is taking measures to address the changing needs of our community,” said Mayor McNamara. “Chief Bondy and his team have done an outstanding job of planning and procuring a vehicle that will serve larger and more complex buildings for years to come.”
Features of the new aerial platform apparatus include:
- A 100ft ladder with improved rescue and firefighting capabilities for residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
- A modernized truck with added safety features such as cameras on all sides and smoother aerial operation controls, which allows for better control of the bucket.
- Greatly improved steering and handling capabilities compared to the previous model, enabling superior maneuverability on-scene and on-street.
