Town of Tecumseh Adopts 2026 Mayor’s Budget
Tecumseh, ON – The Town of Tecumseh officially adopted the 2026 Mayor’s Budget at the Regular Meeting of Council held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. This is the Town’s first Mayor’s budget since the recent introduction of Strong Mayor Powers legislation to municipalities in Ontario which changed how the budget is prepared, presented, and approved.
The approved budget continues to facilitate sustainable growth, invests in Town infrastructure projects, preserves service levels, and provides high-quality programs and services for residents, while also navigating the challenges of increasing inflation and market pressures.
The 2026 Mayor’s budget includes a 2.85% municipal tax increase, with a consolidated increase of approximately 2.36% when including County and education levies. For property owners, this represents a $104 increase based on a property assessed at $275,000 (the average assessed value of a home in Tecumseh).
The 2026 Mayor’s Budget highlights include:
- A proposed capital budget allocation of $58 million for major infrastructure and recreation projects, including upgrades to parks, stormwater systems, and community facilities.
- Laying the foundation for growth and sustainability by constructing and maintaining infrastructure to support housing (new and existing stock).
- Investment in transit, roads, flood protection, utilities, servicing and amenities to sustain and support service delivery.
“This budget makes several investments in infrastructure projects that will support the growth of affordable housing, economic development opportunities, and enhance our parks and public spaces while addressing rising affordability concerns and enables thoughtful, long-term planning for the Town,” said Mayor Gary McNamara. “The Town remains committed to delivering affordable, high-quality services that strive to enhance the quality of life for residents while planning for future growth and investment opportunities.”
Council and Staff thank all residents and stakeholders who engaged and provided feedback during the budget process.
