Dangerous Dogs
Pursuant to the Town's Animal Care and Control By-Law (found in our "Frequently Requested By-Laws" listing), the Animal Control Officer or a Town By-Law Enforcement Officer will, following a complaint, complete an investigation to determine if a dog should be found to be dangerous.
Investigations and Applications
In conducting the investigation and making the determination of whether a Dog should be found to be a Dangerous Dog, the Officer shall consider all known circumstances, including:
- The severity of the attack/bite and any resulting injuries.
- Any prior record of the Dog.
- The circumstances leading to the bite/attack and the Dog's location at the time.
Where, after the investigation, the Officer is of the opinion that it is appropriate to do so, the Officer may make a finding that the Dog is a Dangerous Dog.
