Garbage, Green Bin and Recycling

Collection Calendar and Mobile App

The Collection Calendar provides useful information and the collection schedule for garbage, green bin, yard waste, Christmas tree, and recycling pick-up. Calendars are mailed out to Tecumseh residents at the end of January of each year. Residents who did not receive one by February can visit Town Hall (917 Lesperance) to pick up a copy.

You can also download the Recycle Coach App to receive regular reminders so you never miss another collection.

Collection Changes in 2026

Recycling Cart Program: Starting January 1, 2026, Tecumseh has moved to using the new recycling carts and discontinued the old blue/red recycling bin program. All recycling materials now go in the recycling cart for collection. Residents can request to exchange their 360-litre cart for a smaller cart by filling out the exchange request online form.

This new program is administered by Circular Materials.

Garbage collection is Thursday of every week (weekly).

  • Place your garbage bins out the night before your scheduled collection day
  • Collection containers must be out by 6:00 am on collection day
  • Place your garbage bins on the curb or end of the driveway - never place bins on the road!

Please refer to the Collection Calendar for details regarding basic collection requirements and acceptable garbage container specifications.

Green Bin collection is Tuesday of every week (weekly). Except starting on November 5, 2026, Green Bin collection is Thursday for the rest of 2026 (in Tecumseh only).

Automated trucks pick up the Green Bin, so it's important to set your bin correctly for collection using the PPS (Park-Point-Space) method:

  • PARK the Green Bin about 30cm (1ft) behind the curb
  • POINT the arrows on the Green Bin to the street
  • SPACE the Green Bin at least 1 metre apart from other carts, cars, structures, etc.

Starting in 2025, residents in Tecumseh and other municipalities in Windsor Essex received a Green Bin to separate food waste and other organics from regular garbage to reduce the impact on our local Essex-Windsor Regional Landfill. Learn more about the Green Bin Program.

Starting on January 1, 2026, Essex-Windsor transitioned to a single-stream recycling system. This means you can combine all recyclables into your provided recycling cart. Essex-Windsor’s recycling program is managed by Circular Materials, a national not-for-profit organization that is committed to building an efficient and effective recycling system in Ontario.
