Tecumseh Celebrates National Volunteer Week 2023

Tecumseh, ON - The Town of Tecumseh celebrated National Volunteer Week with a Volunteer Appreciation Night on April 20, extending gratitude to many volunteers for their significant contributions benefiting the community.

This annual celebration is a time to thank and recognize volunteers across Tecumseh, and Tecumseh welcomed volunteers back to celebrate in person for the first time since 2019. The 2023 theme is “Volunteering Weaves us Together”, strengthening the fabric of our community by sharing our time, talent and energy to support one another.

At the Volunteer Appreciation Night on April 20, Tecumseh Mayor and Members of Council recognized three Tecumseh residents with awards for their volunteerism and community service:

  • Heather Holding – 2022 Donald “Donny” Massender Memorial Volunteer Award
  • Shirley Drouillard– 2023 Senior of the Year Award
  • Grace Allison– 2023 Youth of the Year Award

Tecumseh committees and local boards were also recognized for their dedication and an unselfish desire to help others and improve the Town of Tecumseh.

"Volunteers are the backbone of the community, driving activities that benefit us all. During Volunteer Week 2023, we celebrate their extraordinary contributions to the Town through boards and committees, as well as programs like Snow and Leaf Angels," said Mayor Gary McNamara. "I encourage everyone to consider volunteering to help build stronger and more inclusive communities across this wonderful Town."
