The Town of Tecumseh has made it easier for residents to say, I do!

As of January 2018, the Town offers marriage licensing. The service will be available at the Town Hall office during regular hours.

The licence fee is $130.00, payable by cash or debit only.  No personal cheques or credit cards are accepted. This fee is non-refundable. The marriage licence is valid for 3 months from the date of issue.

Application requirements

Before you get married, you need to be aware of the following:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or over; or written parental consent is required.
  • Licence is only valid in Ontario for 3 months from the date of issue.
  • Marriage Licence Application form must be completed and printed off. Both applicants must sign the application form; however, only one applicant needs to be present to issue the licence.
  • Two (2) pieces of identification are required for both applicants whether one is present or not - we do not accept photocopies.
  • If your document is not in English or French, you must have it translated by a certified translator.
  • Fee - $130.00 (cash or debit only).
Identification requirements

Each applicant must provide two (2) pieces of identification:

  • Birth Certificate including any change of name certificates (government issued identification)

  • Canadian Citizenship Card

The second must contain a photo such as:

No photocopies will be processed. Once you complete the form and both applicants sign it, provide the necessary identification, and pay the fee, the office staff will prepare the Marriage Licence, meet with the applicant(s) as set out in the Marriage (Prohibited Degrees) Act, and administer the Oath.
