Council Connect: Highlights from July 11, 2023, meetings of Council

Tecumseh Town Council met this evening and here are the highlights:

Regular Meeting of Council

Strategic Priorities 2023 – 2026 (Draft) and 2022 Report Out: Council and Administration meet at the beginning of each term of Council to establish corporate strategic priorities for the future. In 2019,  Council adopted a strategic plan that was implemented and reported out through annual progress reports. Earlier this year, Council engaged in strategic planning sessions with Forsyth Consulting to develop a new plan for the 2023-2026 term. The resulting draft plan reflects the priorities and goals of Council for the current term and beyond. Council approved the Strategic Priorities 2023 – 2026 in principle and also approved the 2022 Report Out from the prior plan.  The new Strategic Plan will be brought to the July 25th meeting for final approval and will then be released publicly.

Tecumseh Arena Flood Damage: On July 2, 2023, there was a rainfall event that caused flooding at the Tecumseh Arena due to drainage issues caused by a partial blockage of the storm drain at the outflow area. Water back-flowed into the arena, damaging lower walls and flooring in the office, canteen, and lobby. A complete financial assessment of the total costs of repairs and remediation is still being determined and will be brought back to the July 25, 2023, Regular Council Meeting. Council received the report.

2024 Business Plan and Budget Timetable: Council approved the 2024 Business Plan and Budget Timetable. The timetable includes information on public consultation, including the budget survey. The survey will be available on our website from September 13th – October 13th. Alternatively, residents can obtain a printed version upon request during that same timeframe. Council approved the timetable which can be found on the Town website here.

2023 Supply of Various Vehicles Tender Award: Council approved contracts for the purchase of three pickup trucks to be awarded to Blue Mountain Chrysler and Amherstburg Chevrolet, as well as a regular cab and chassis with a dump body to Blue Mountain Chrysler as an irregular result under the Town's purchasing policy. The total cost of the purchase is $226,681, with an increase of $39,798 to the original allocation, to be funded from the Fleet Lifecycle Reserve.

Next Regular Meeting: The next regular meeting of Council is July 25, 2023. The meeting is scheduled to be held electronically. The agenda and livestream will be available on the Town’s website. Follow the Town of Tecumseh on Facebook and Twitter for news and the latest information.
