The Town of Tecumseh is implementing temporary changes to Transit service in Town. Fares for Tecumseh Transit will be reduced to zero ($0) beginning Saturday, March 21 to limit contact between riders and drivers. The Town continues to request that residents heed the request to socially distance and avoid any unnecessary travel. This change is temporary and is expected to be in effect until April 5 after which it will be reassessed.

Town of Tecumseh parks and playgrounds continue to be maintained on a reduced schedule with washrooms scheduled to open later this spring in accordance with annual practices. With this in mind and with the current COVID-19 situation, we kindly request that visitors to our parks and playgrounds adhere to the following:

  • stay home if you are sick, have recently travelled outside of Canada or have a sick family member
  • practice social distancing while out in public and avoid congregating in groups
  • remember to wash your hands or bring hand sanitizer with you to use after touching surfaces
  • place your garbage in the containers supplied in the park

"We don’t want to discourage anyone from getting out and enjoying the parks, trails and public areas outdoors, especially during the current situation with so many children at home,” said Gary McNamara, Mayor of Tecumseh. “We want everyone to stay healthy and the only way to do that is to ask everyone to take measures that protect you and your family. If you’re sick, stay home. If you go to a park or playground, try to keep a safe distance and be mindful of your surroundings. Remember to bring hand sanitizer with you.”

Tecumseh closed all public facing offices on Wednesday, March 18 at noon. This includes the Town Hall, Arena, Fire Hall and Public Works and Parks & Recreation Offices. Work continues in the offices with service provided by phone, e-mail and drop-box. Phones continue to be answered during regular business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and online service requests remain available at all times.

As this situation is constantly changing with updated messages from the Canadian and Ontario governments as well as public health agencies, the Town will continue to provide ongoing updates on further decisions. All updates will be posted to our website and users may register for regular updates from the online subscription service.
