The Town of Tecumseh has launched a Virtual Recreation Complex (www.tecumseh.ca/virtualrecreation), a new online source for recreational activities anyone can do in the comfort and safety of their home. The site provides a number of ideas and activities for all ages during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Families are looking for activities to do to stay active and engaged while staying at home” said Gary McNamara, Mayor of Tecumseh. “Although our facilities are closed, our Parks and Recreation Services staff have developed a range of activities for our residents to enjoy during this time”.

Tecumseh’s Virtual Recreation Complex has suggestions by age, recommendations on how to stay physically active while at home, creative activities for individuals and families, training resources for local athletes and links to virtual field trips.

Many of these activities can be done at home either inside or in your yard. The Town continues to encourage everyone to stay home and avoid the spread of COVID-19. If you do take advantage of the weather to go for a walk or cycle through Tecumseh parks, we request that you keep physical distance of 2 m (6 feet), keep moving and don’t congregate or loiter.

“Our Parks and Recreation Services staff are dedicated to helping our residents get through this time while we are all staying at home” said Paul Anthony, Director of Parks and Recreation. “We look forward to the day when we can re-open our facilities for all to enjoy but until then we hope this information will help our residents”.

The Tecumseh Virtual Recreation Complex will be updated on a regular basis with new ideas for residents to enjoy.

The Tecumseh Parks and Recreation Services staff are also asking residents to share how they are staying in motion during this time on Twitter (@TecumsehRec) and Facebook (Tecumseh Recreation Services).

As this situation is constantly changing with updated messages from the federal and provincial  governments, the Town will continue to provide ongoing updates on further decisions. All updates will be posted to our website and users may register for regular updates using the online subscription service.

For the most up-to-date information on COVID-19, we encourage you to visit the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit; Travel Advisories; Health Canada; and, the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. Information on this and all Town of Tecumseh news and events is available at www.tecumseh.ca, Twitter (@TownofTecumseh), and Facebook (Town of Tecumseh).
