The Town of Tecumseh, in partnership with the Optimist Club of St. Clair Beach and the Tecumseh Community Policing Committee, will host a public information consultation at the Tecumseh Recreation Complex and Arena on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The consultation session is being held to engage the community and discuss ways to reduce negative and unsafe behaviours at public events such as the fireworks.

“The Optimist Club of St. Clair Beach is a very active service group in our community and hosts several events each year and unfortunately at last year’s fireworks event there were some incidents involving unwelcome behaviour ” said Gary McNamara, Mayor of Tecumseh. “We are working with the Optimist Club to address these issues together to ensure that community events such as this can proceed into the future”.

“The members of the Optimist Club are proud to serve the community through the various events and fundraisers we coordinate throughout the year,” said Richard Zarour, President of the Optimist Club of St. Clair Beach. “Following last year’s event, we have been working closely with the Town and the OPP to incorporate additional safety measures at this year’s fireworks event to ensure it will be a fun and safe evening for all to enjoy”.

“Events such as the Victoria Day Fireworks are an important part of our community and we encourage families to attend events such as this together to avoid young adults being unsupervised,” said Jamie Smith, Staff Sergeant Tecumseh OPP. “Officers will be at the fireworks event to address any issues of concern and will be directing attendees to move out quickly at the conclusion of the event”.

In addition to the fireworks, the Optimist Club of St. Clair Beach hosts several events throughout the year including an Easter Egg Hunt, Kids Fishing Derby, Taste of Tecumseh Festival, and Family Fun Fair. They work closely with the Town and the OPP to ensure that safety measures are in place so that all events proceed as planned for the community’s enjoyment. The 43rd annual fireworks event is scheduled Saturday, May 16 at the Optimist Park in Tecumseh. The public information consultation will share details on last year’s event and discuss matters related to this year’s event.
