Town of Tecumseh New Zoning By-law Project

Notice of Public Open House

Since Fall 2022, the Town of Tecumseh has been working to prepare a new Zoning By-law which will apply to all lands within the Town. Zoning in Tecumseh is currently regulated by three zoning by-laws which apply to the three former municipalities (former Town of Tecumseh, former Village of St. Clair Beach and former Township of Sandwich South) that now form the current Town of Tecumseh. The new consolidated Zoning By-law is also an opportunity to respond to necessary updates and modern planning and development trends.

You are invited to attend an in-person Public Open House to provide your input into key topics and issues that will be addressed in the Town’s new Zoning By-law. This is the second Public Open House related to the project where various options and recommendations will be presented which address the ideas and issues that were heard and discussed in the first public open house in December 2022. This Public Open House will also be an opportunity to learn about an Issues and Methodology Report that has been prepared to guide the preparation of the new Zoning By-law. The new Draft Zoning By-law will be presented at a later date.

What is a Zoning By-law?

The Zoning By-law is the Town’s primary tool to regulate the use of land in Tecumseh. The Zoning By-law divides all land in the Town into various zone categories (e.g., residential, agricultural, commercial), establishes what uses are permitted, and identifies standards about the location, massing and height of buildings and structures. 

When and where is the public open house?

The in-person Public Open House is being held to provide different timeslot options for community participation. Please note that the same material will be presented in each timeslot, so it is not necessary to attend more than one meeting.
