Tecumseh Accessibility Advisory Committee

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, ("AODA") states that municipalities must establish an Accessibility Advisory Committee, which shall advise Council in each year about the preparation, implementation, and effectiveness of the municipality’s Accessibility Plan.

The Committee is to be made up of one (1) Member of Council and eight (8) members from the community. The AODA requires that not less than 50 percent of this Committee’s members be persons with disabilities or such members as Council deems appropriate.

TAAC is governed by it's Terms of Reference.

The Tecumseh Accessibility Advisory Committee ("TAAC") meets quarterly at the call of the chair. The responsibilities of TAAC are:

  • to provide advice to Council, each year, about the preparation, implementation, and effectiveness of the municipality's Accessibility Plan
  • to review blueprints and designs;
  • to tour existing facilities and suggests improvements;
  • to carry out all obligations of an Accessibility Advisory Committee as established by the AODA.
