You must be at least 16 years old to get married in Ontario. If you are under 18 years old, you must obtain written consent from all parents/legal guardians. Each parent/legal guardian must complete the Consent of Parents or Guardians to Marriage Form, each of which is to be brought to your appointment with the Town.
Marriage Services
You must book an appointment before attending Town Hall.
Please note, the Town of Tecumseh does not perform civil marriage ceremonies.
You must apply online with ServiceOntario for a marriage licence before picking it up in-person from your local municipality. Once you submit your application, the Town will be notified and we will contact you to arrange an appointment (or you may call the Town to do so). Only one of you needs to attend.
Appointments will be at Town Hall between the hours of 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. See below for details of what to bring to the appointment.
A non-refundable licence fee is $140.00 is payable by cash or debit only. No personal cheques or credit cards are accepted.
The marriage licence is valid for 3 months from the date of issue.
To get a marriage licence, you must:
- Complete a marriage licence application online at ServiceOntario (linked below).
- Provide 2 pieces of government-issued identification for each person getting married. One piece of identification for each person getting married must include their photo. You will bring this ID to the appointment.
- Provide supporting documentation (for example: proof of divorce) (if applicable).
- Have at least one of you attend in-person to pick up the licence.
- Pay the fee.
At your appointment, once you complete the application and you both sign it, provide the necessary identification, and pay the fee, Town staff will prepare the Marriage Licence, meet with you as set out in the Marriage (Prohibited Degrees) Act, and administer the Oath.
