Storm Sewer System
Stormwater is water from rain - or melting snow - that does not quickly soak into the ground. Stormwater flows from rooftops, over paved areas and through sloped lawns and property.
The Town's storm sewer system is made up of underground piping and open ditches that convey untreated water into Lake St. Clair via stormwater pumping stations.
The Public Works department operates and maintains the Town's stormwater pumping stations that are operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Each pumping station is outfitted with standby emergency power generators.
You can access additional information regarding stormwater management provided in the booklet titled Information for Residents - Stormwater Management.
To ensure that the Town's existing storm drainage systems continue to function as intended, all new development is required to implement stormwater management control measures in accordance with the v2 (Amendment No. 1) of the Windsor Essex Region Stormwater Management Standards Manual (June 12, 2024).
