Flooding Protection
Basement Flooding
As a homeowner, you can reduce the risk from basement flooding by carrying out the following:
- Make sure the ground and pavement slope away from your home
- Properly install and maintain your sump pump and backwater valve
- Provide backup power supply to the sump pump
- Remove cross-connections between the sump pump, sanitary pipes or floor drain
- Disconnect downspouts from the storm piping
- Ensure there are no cracks in the stormwater piping around your home
- Ensure there are no cracks or holes in the basement walls or floors that may allow water to enter the basement
