A water meters is a device that records your water usage. Every residential, industrial, commercial and institutional building is equipped with a water meter to track water usage. The water meter ensures that each customer is billed only for the water they use.

If you constructed a new home or building that receives water from the Town's water distribution system, you are required to purchase a water meter by completing the Water Meter & Service Permit. You can drop off your permit application to Town Hall at 917 Lesperance Road, Tecumseh, ON, N8N 1W9, or submit this application via email to Water staff.

The water meter cost is relative to the water meter size. The current rates are provided in the Water Billing and Rates section.

High Water Bill?

Do you think your water bill is higher than normal? Ninety percent of high water bills are due to leaky plumbing (toilet leaks).

To confirm a water leak, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Locate your water meter. Water meters have numbers or spinning dials that record water usage. Most also have a low-flow indicator (a small red arrow or line), which senses any volume of water consumed. When water is running, the low-flow indicator should spin.
  2. Turn off all taps inside and outside the building. Do not run your dishwasher or washing machine or any other item that consumes water.
  3. Check the meter. Watch the meter for a minute or more. If the low-flow indicator is moving, you have a leak.
  4. If you find a leak, contact Water staff to book an appointment at 519-735-2184 ext. 142.
